About Heidi Blair
As a child and student, I was engaged and eager, loving school, sitting in the front row, raising my hand, and excelling in every subject. But my college years were difficult. I learned to navigate life on my own in a world I was wholly unprepared for. I felt alone and directionless, and though I worked my way through five years and five different colleges and universities as a waitress, I stopped short of a degree. I decided to try the real world instead.
My journey then led me to advertising sales in the publishing world, and into a young marriage that, before our first anniversary, became abusive. I had him arrested, divorced him, and began again. This resilience, born from navigating profound personal transitions and rebuilding from the ground up, now deeply informs my coaching for clients facing their own difficult beginnings or endings.
My career path evolved, leading to my second marriage, my first pregnancy, and a gender discrimination suit against a Park Avenue publishing house. At 28, the same year my first child was born, I was the top producer, making nearly $200,000. I had two more children, settled the lawsuit out of court, and settled into raising a family. This was by far the richest and most rewarding "job" I had ever imagined. I spent 20 years in an active role that has yielded a lifetime of richness, three incredible humans all settled now, and three grandchildren. The love and the family tree have truly blossomed.
These years were a blend of joy, abundance, loneliness, and lack—a stark illustration of how life can hold both beauty and painful challenges. This personal understanding of "the messy, beautiful middle" directly aligns with Lifeing's mission to create space for people who are still figuring it out, still reaching, still choosing themselves, one breath, one choice, one day at a time. I deeply understand that living well isn't about perfection, but about presence.
Then came another pivot. I divorced again, with the means to support myself and retire at 50, but the "Big Short" of 2008 and the resulting recession had other plans. My seven-figure "cracked nest egg" was draining me into bankruptcy. This moment of immense loss and necessary reinvention profoundly shaped my path. It taught me the true meaning of resilience and adaptability, lessons I now bring to Lifeing members and clients navigating their own complex life transitions, burnout, or financial uncertainty. It was then I trained to become a life coach, while working three jobs, embarking upon a life in service of others.
The hats I wore were many, and each gave me so much. I have moved 39 times in my 66 years, owned and operated a Bed & Breakfast in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and attended culinary school in Florence, Italy. I managed a horse farm in Pennsylvania, sold summer reading programs for children, and cared for a young mother and her two children after divorce, working nights serving drinks and hors d'oeuvres at the kind of parties I used to attend – where my worldliness and polish paid $25 an hour. I opened a unique concept retail store in a wealthy enclave of Northern California, even as e-commerce was squeezing out venerable giants of retail. And after a good but short run, I became a personal assistant, then property manager for high-net-worth clients. I was good at that, because I lived that life; I had remodeled seven houses, overseen the building of two, could read plans, and understood contracting and the trades thanks to my third husband. I was indispensable until I wasn't, and I got fired, a lot.
Every one of these varied experiences—from navigating diverse industries to understanding the nuances of wealth, managing complex projects, or simply earning an honest wage—has forged a deep empathy and practical wisdom. They allow me to truly "meet people where they are" and understand the multifaceted challenges that impact well-being, from failed relationships, financial stress to professional transitions, all core to Lifeing's inclusive approach.
I am an avid reader, researcher, writer, and life-long learner. And I now know that all the while, I was on a long and winding road of self-discovery and growth, never straying from the world I now inhabit, where my passion and purpose are aligned. I get to do what I truly love: serve as a guide for those navigating the peaks and valleys along this amazing journey we call Lifeing. As a coach, I bring a lifetime of hard-won wisdom, genuine compassion, and an unwavering belief in everyone’s capacity to become exactly who they want to be. This is your one precious life, how will you choose to live it?
